By now most, if not all of you would have heard, seen or read about the success of the Excelsior Eagles and Lady Eagles at the recently concluded 2015 Penn Relays, where the teams made 5 of 6 finals in events competed.
This is significant for a number of reasons, two of which are: the occasion marks the 50th anniversary of the school's first participation at this prestigious and historic event and secondly it is the first time Excelsior is sending a team of girls to Penns. Also not to be lost is that for the first time in decades XLCR made a Championship of America final, as well as winning a Penn Relay shield for the first time since 1967.

All this did not come by happenstance, it is the result of five years of planning, dedication and hard work, by the student-athletes, coaches, managers and school administration. That said, the journey is no where near complete, as there is so much more to be done if we are to regain our place as one of the top track and field schools in the land.

I would like to thank those of you who have supported the programme over the past few years. Five years ago track and field at Excelsior was near defunct. At the request of our dynamic principal, Mr Deanroy Bromfield, a group of former Excelsior High athletes set out to rebuild the programme. In the early years only very of you shared our vision, even fewer supported us in any tangible way. However as the years progressed, as more Alumni and friends recognized the value of the programme, they came on board.

We were also able to attract a number of quality coaches and with their input and the dedication and hard work of the athletes we are well on our way to making our goals a reality. However success not only inspires but attracts more people. We therefore need to prepare for more students wanting to be part of this programme come August/September. More athletes, simply put, translates into the need for more resources. As such planning for next season has already commenced, even though this one is not yet completed.

Currently we have athletes that are preparing to compete at the JAAA Junior trials in 6 weeks, with the hope of making the Jamaica World Youth or Pan Am Junior Teams to those events over the Summer. You can just imagine what it means to an individual to make a national team, and the prestige it brings to their school. As you can see track and field is a "year round" activity, and while it brings tremendous prestige to school and country, it is a extremely costly endeavour.

We are therefore asking those of you who have been supporting us to please continue to do so. However I want to make a special appeal to those who have been "sitting on the sidelines". To you I say now is the time for you as good "Age" people to come aboard and support your school, support your team. You have seen what focus, dedication, and commitment can do; you have seen what a little success can do, so let's strive for even more. It can be done; it will be done, but we need your assistance to do it.

Instructions for making contributions are listed below.

All contributions go directly and solely to the Excelsior High Track and Field Programme. DASH Athletics is a totally volunteer organization, whose administrative costs are totally absorbed by its members, who are all XLCR past students.
