Improved Excelsior Eagles at CHAMPS: Boys finished 12th with 31 points, while Lady Eagles finished 15th with 19 points..... Appeal for financial support to sustain the progress of the program.

Well it's all over. Champs 2014 is now history. We certainly hope that we made you all proud.

The Excelsior Eagles finished 12th, with 31 points, while the Lady Eagles finished 15th with 19 points. This represents an improvement over last year when the boys finished finished 14th with 19 points, and the girls 17th with 12 points.

Last August when the teams commenced training the objective was to make the top ten in both categories. While we have fallen just outside of that goal, we have improved our positions somewhat. Congratulations to the student-athletes, coaches, school administration, and our alumni who supported us. DASH Athletics would like to thank all those persons & organizations who have made this possible, by extending their support in terms of cash and kind.

We have demonstrated what can be achieved, but it takes significant resources. We would like to make this programme one of the most competitive in the nation, but we need the support of more Alumni. Currently only a few have stepped forward and answered our various request for contributions.

Some persons have even contacted me and asked if this (DASH) is a scam. Well It is not. All funds/resources donated go straight to the T&F Programme at Excelsior High. All DASH Members are volunteers who receive no compensation for their time and efforts.

Additionally both DASH Athletics organization (NY & Jamaica) are registered entities, and all monies are accounted for, with timely reports to our various oversight committees.

A T&F programme such as this is a multi-million dollar venture. In fact, we currently have outstanding bills in excess of J$500,000, mostly for the gear the athletes wore at Champs.

Without additional funding it is going to be extremely difficult to get where we intend to go, which is to energize the school community, making both present and past students proud of their noble institution.

Once again, we hope you enjoyed and were inspired by the teams performance, and many thanks to all who supported us throughout the season.

While the Champs season is finished, the athletic season is not, as we have an athlete who will possibly represent Jamaica at the Junior CARIFTA Games and a few others who will be hoping to make the Jamaican World Junior Championships Team in a few months time.

The work continues.

Age Animo,
Shaks
