Age Animo at Penn Relays 2013... Eagles Participation XLCR High School

Alumni & Friends,

As most are aware by now the Excelsior T&F Programme has made tremendous strides in the last year or two. This season has so far been quite a successful one with an increase in both participation as well as improved overall performances from the student-athletes. It is indeed heartening to see our athletes competing with the best youngsters that Jamaica has to offer. It is also heart warming to hear the media practitioners, fans, and various alumni express their pleasure at seeing Excelsior High back in the mix. These include past students & athletes from schools such as Calabar & KC, who are now considered among the elites of local high school track & field. Those old enough may remember, Excelsior High was once one of the dominant Jamaican high school T&F programmes, both at Boys & Girls Champs and at Penns.

Boys & Girls Champs is Twelve days away and expectations among the athletes and coaches are high but tempered. Last weekend we had a relatively good showing at the Gibson Relays, particularly with the Boys 4x400, Girls Class 3 - 4x100 & Girls 4x800 Relays, with 2 - 4th place finishes & one fifth respectively.

We intend to participate in the Penn Relays this year for the first time in decades. We see this as the continuation of the resuscitation of the programme. The plans are to send a party of between 9 to 14 persons (7 - 11 athletes & 2 - 3 coaches/officials).

This of course is an ambitious project which will require significant resources. Some of you may have seen Hewitt Depass' earlier email on the subject; requesting assistance for this endeavor, to which Two persons have so far responded positively. These two are among our most ardent supporters/contributors. However we need as many persons, particularly those of you who have not yet come aboard. Now is the time to commit yourself to the advancement of your Alma mater. Remember NO CONTRIBUTION IS TOO SMALL.

Depending on the make-up of the party, the projected budget is between USD9,000 & USD14,000. We are therefore requesting your assistance to enable these student-athletes to showcase their talents at these prestigious relays, while representing their school & country.

NO CONTRIBUTION IS TOO SMALL.
